A virtual Robot improvises dance to music.
This Video shows my first experiments with beat detection algorythm combined with kinetic correct bodymovements. The different angles the Robot uses while reacting to beat impulses are inspired by the danceform called Tutting. That means that the Robot is allowed to choose randomly between different 90 degree permutations of each bodyjoint. This Program and its beatdetection algorythm is purely written in Processing. The main problem right now is that the machine itself is not programmed as a learning system, especially musically – he should “learn” more. However it is still fascinating to see, how fast he reacts with a huge arsenal of possibilities.
